Provincial leaders visited Chinese Embassy

On 25 Oct, 2022, the Solomon Islands provincial premier delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands. The Hon. Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare led the delegation together with Hon. Rollen Seleso, Minister for Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, Hon. Harry Kuma, Minister for Finance and Treasury, Hon. Rhoda Sikilabu, Premier of Isabel, Hon. Julian Maka’a, Premier of Makira Province, and deputy premiers, senior provincial officials of Guadalcanal, Malaita, Renebel, Centeral, Western and Choiseul Provinces.



In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Li gave a briefing on fruitful results of cooperation between China and Solomon Islands in the past three years since bilateral diplomatic relationship. Ambassador Li said China stands ready to develop sub-national cooperation with all provinces of Solomon Islands, based on principles of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit. 

Ambassador Li also highlighted the importance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the great achievements China has made.

Ambassador Li said, China will make sure the stability and continuity of its domestic and foreign policy, uphold peace, development, and commitment of building to a global community with a shared future. As General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out, China cannot develop itself if isolated from the world, and the world needs China for its development. China will bring new development opportunities for Solomon Islands and other developing countries. Provinces of Solomon Islands are welcome to seize the opportunity to develop cooperation with China and welcome everyone to visit China in the future.



Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare congratulated on the successful 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. He reaffirmed that the Solomon Islands Government will remain committed to the One-China principle and stay on the right side of history. Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to China for the valuable support in hosting 2023 Pacific Games by constructing main stadium, SINU dormitory and other infrastructure with support of China and other development partners , the government and people of Solomon Islands are fully confident of hosting a successful regional sporting event.



Speaking on behalf of the provinces, Premier of Isabel the Hon. Rhoda Sikilabu said that the national government's relationship with China has brought about tangible benefits to the people of all the provinces, including Isabel. Isabel is ready to continue cooperation and friendship with China in areas of economy, trade, people to people exchange and infrastructure.




Before the visit to the Chinese Embassy, Ambassador Li Ming accompanied Provincial leaders and toured China-aided 2023 Pacific Games facilities. The provincial leaders’ delegation was invited by the National Hosting Authority of Solomon Islands to visit preparatory work at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara.
