On the afternoon of September 4, 2024, President Xi Jinping met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that half a century ago, the elder generation of leaders of China and Gabon had the vision to jointly forge a friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries. Today, this relationship has developed into a model for China's relations with Africa and other developing countries. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Gabon. China is ready to work with Gabon to keep in mind the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, continue the traditional friendship and seize the opportunities of the times to create a brighter future for the China-Gabon comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Gabon should draw strength from their traditional friendship and firmly support each other. Projects such as the upgrading of the power grid in Gabon's capital and the vocational education center jointly implemented by the two sides have been welcomed by the Gabonese people. China is ready to take the FOCAC Beijing Summit as an opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, health, digital economy and other fields to help Gabon's economic diversification and transformation. China is also ready to strengthen cooperation with Gabon in counter-terrorism and security to promote domestic stability and regional peace and security.
Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema thanked President Xi Jinping for inviting him to attend the FOCAC Beijing Summit in China and for taking the time to meet with him, which fully reflects the friendship between the people of Gabon and China and the stability of bilateral relations. Gabon and China enjoy close relations in various fields. China is Gabon's most important cooperation partner and has contributed to Gabon's national development in various ways. Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema also thanked China for supporting Gabon's political transition process. Gabon firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is ready to jointly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China, actively participate in the Belt and Road cooperation, and continuously consolidate and deepen the Gabon-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
During the summit, China and Gabon will sign a number of bilateral cooperation documents in investment and economic cooperation, infrastructure development and other fields.
