Friends in Solomon Islands!
Chinese compatriots!
Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, we celebrate the 16th United Nations Chinese Language Day and the 6th "International Chinese Language Day", which marks the first celebration of this occasion in Solomon Islands.

Chinese is one of the world’s oldest languages, serving as the vessel of the profound history and splendid culture of Chinese civilization. From vast classical books, vigorous calligraphy, melodious poetry to intricate inscription, grand stele, and ingenious couplets, Chinese language engages in every manifestation of Chinese civilization, making it a significant component of Chinese culture and vital importance to Chinese people.

Evolving from oracle age to modernity, Chinese language is both ancient and contemporary. Along the "Belt and Road", Chinese language has taken root globally and become an international language. It is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Over 180 countries now offer Chinese language education, and 81 nations have incorporated Chinese into their national education systems through legislation. Over 20 international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Health Organization, recognize Chinese as an official language. Chinese has also become the most widely used foreign business language in ASEAN countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Solomon Islands five years ago, China has provided full scholarships to more than 200 Solomon Islands students and facilitated training opportunities in China for over 300 professionals from various sectors. In December last year, the two countries implemented a mutual visa exemption agreement, further deepening people-to-people exchanges. The demand and enthusiasm for learning Chinese among Solomon Islanders continue to grow. Many talented young individuals from Solomon Islands have gained better development opportunities through learning Chinese and studying in China, playing a vital role in advancing bilateral cooperation across multiple fields.

The Chinese government has long dispatched Chinese language teachers to promote Chinese education in Solomon Islands. This year, Solomon Islands National University launched its first Chinese language course, making 2025 the inaugural year of Chinese language education in higher education institutions of Solomon Islands. The Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands has donated books and organized cultural exchange activities to promote Chinese language learning, striving to help Solomon Islanders better appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese culture, understand the latest achievements in China’s modernization, and strengthen cooperation in all areas.

China is a good friend, partner, and brother to Solomon Islands. China is committed to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Solomon Islands, aligning the “Belt and Road Initiative” with the national development strategies of Solomon Islands to achieve win-win cooperation. Amidst a complex and volatile international situation, China firmly advocates openness to foster cooperation and development. We are eager to share the opportunities and dividends of high-quality development with Solomon Islands, driving collective prosperity for the Global South. As the saying goes, "Amity between the people holds the key to sound state-to-state relations", China is willing to strengthen cultural exchanges with Solomon Islands. I sincerely hope that the enthusiasm for learning Chinese will grow alongside the deepening of our comprehensive strategic partnership, solidifying the bridge of mutual understanding between our peoples, and helping us build a shared future and an even brighter future for China-Solomon relations.

Thank you!
