On August 25, the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands held an awarding ceremony for receivers of the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship. Chinese Ambassador H.E.Cai Weiming, Hon. Stephen Kumi, Minister for Education and Human Resources Development(MEHRD), H.E. Barrett Salato, Solomon Islands Ambassador to China, scholarship receivers and their parents, members of the Solomon Islands-China Scholars and Alumni Association attended the event.

Ambassador Cai congratulated the receivers of the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship, noting that amity between peoples holds the key to the relationship between countries. Education cooperation between China and Solomon Islands has strengthened people-to-people ties and mutual trust between the two countries, delivering tangible benefits to the people of Solomon Islands. China appreciates the new SIG’s commitment to the one-China principle, is willing to strengthen relationship with Solomon Islands while upholding the principle of “four full respects”, and continue to take China-SI comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights.

Ambassador Salato encouraged students to travel around China and explore its rich culture, experiencing its unique charm and injecting new vitality into practical cooperation between China and Solomon Islands.

Hon. Kumi sincerely appreciated China’s contribution to the development of Solomon Islands and hope to enhance educational cooperation, deepen people-to-people exchanges, and further strengthen the friendship between China and Solomon Islands. He praised China’s remarkable achievements in modern high-speed infrastructure, advanced agricultural research and cutting-edge technology, encouraged the students to gain practical experience and use their knowledge to contribute to their home country’s development.

Ambassador Cai and Hon. Kumi jointly presented awards to the scholarship recipients. Representatives of Solomon Islands students said they would cherish this precious opportunity, devote themselves wholeheartedly to their studies, return home to contribute to national development, and write a new chapter in the friendship between the two countries. Guests, family members and friends of students present at the event expressed their sincere gratitude to the China, and looked forward to seeing the students would soon grow into outstanding contributors to their countries.
