Recently, Chinese Ambassador to Solomon Islands H.E. Cai Weiming published an article titled “A better Future for China-Solomon Islands Relations: Building Together on the Occasion of the 7th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations” on Solomon Star and Island Sun newspapers. The full text is as follows:

It has been 7 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Solomon Islands. In the past 7 years, our two countries have always been respecting and supporting each other, and our bilateral relations have achieved substantial progress, with fruitful pragmatic cooperation, and deeply rooted friendship.
Over the past 7 years, we continued to deepen our political mutual trust. China's cooperation with SI has always followed the principle of "four full respects" put forward by President Xi Jinping, namely, China fully respects the sovereignty and independence of SI; fully respects the will of SI; fully respects the cultural traditions of SI; and fully respects Pacific Island Countries' efforts to seek strength through unity. In July 2026, the Speaker of SI National Parliament Hon.Patterson Oti, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Rick Houenipwela visited China, injecting strong momentum into our bilateral relations. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Wang Yi of China pointed out that China's relations with Pacific Island Countries is aimed at strengthening South-South cooperation and promoting common development. China carries no geopolitical intention, seeks no so-called "spheres of influence", and our bilateral cooperation should not be disrupted by any third party. China-SI cooperation is consistent with the fundamental interest of both our peoples and the trend of history. Looking ahead,China stands ready to work closely with the government of SI to elevate our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to a new level.
Over the past 7 years, we continued to enrich our practical cooperation. China has remained SI's largest trading partner for many consecutive years. Since the establishment of our diplomatic relations, our bilateral trade volume totaled nearly US$ 4.3 billion, with SI exporting US$ 2.7 billion to China and producing a trade surplus of US$ 1.2 billion, which has brought enormous opportunities for SI's economic and social development. A number of Belt & Road projects, such as the National Stadium, the SINU Dormitory, the National Referral Hospital Comprehensive Medical Center, and the National Broadband Network project have been completed and put into operation. The Auki Road Project in Malaita Province is also scheduled for handover in November. These projects have further improved SI's national infrastructure and brought tangible improvements to people's living standards. The China Medical Team has treated more than 80,000 local patients and successfully performed groundbreaking high-tech operations. The China Police Liaison Team provided professional training for the RSIPF and conducted community outreaches at the grassroots level. China has also donated multiple batches of medical equipment and police equipment to SI, making a significant contribution to improving the country's health-care and public security, The Rural Sustainable Development Project has progressed steadily, while a large number of "small and beautiful" livelihood projects have been implemented across SI. The outcomes of China-SI cooperation have reached all nine provinces and Honiara, benefiting households across the country.
Over the past 7 years, we continued to expand people-to-people exchanges. In August, we held a grand farewell ceremony for SI students who received the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, nearly 300 SI students have received full scholarships to study in China, becoming "ambassadors of friendship" between our two countries. Over the past 7 years, China has helped more than 1,700 Solomon Islanders from various sectors undertake training programs in China, assisting the country in cultivating professional talents needed for its economic and social development. Sub-national exchanges between our two countries have also grown closer. Many provinces of China donated large quantities of materials and provided talent development opportunities to SI sister provinces and Honiara, effectively promoting the development of rural communities. On August 26, the visa exemption agreement between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and SI officially took effect. The personnel exchanges between our two countries have become more convenient, and the public support for China-SI friendship has been further strengthened.
As we celebrate the achievements of China-SI relations, I would like to point out once again that this relation is based on the political foundation of the one-China principle, which is also the political foundation of China's bilateral relations with other countries and regional and international organizations. The connotation of the one-China principle is that: There is only one China in the world; Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory; And the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The one-China principle is a basic norm in international relations enshrined in UNGA Resolution 2758. To uphold the one-China principle means resolute opposition to any form of so-called "Taiwan independence", and support for China's efforts to achieve national reunification. In the past 7 years, the government of SI has continuously adhered to the one-China principle. China highly appreciates it.
China is willing to further share the development opportunities with SI. Based on the one-China principle, we invite friends from SI to take a ride on the fast train towards modernization, join hands in building a China-SI community with a shared future, and deliver more tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
